Our story
The Bali Cultural Association USA was launched in Atlanta, Georgia in 1988 by a small group of Bali Nyonga people who had settled in the United States. What began as a reunion of families became a national body: apolitical, non-profit, and open to every person of Bali descent and to friends of Bali.
Nearly four decades on, the association runs fourteen chapters, more than a dozen standing committees, and an annual national convention that has met every year since its founding. Dues and donations have paid for water systems, hospital equipment, scholarships and the renovation of the royal palace at Bali.

Objectives of the association
Mission and objectives

Preserve the culture
Language, dress, music and festival practice, taught and kept in use rather than archived.

Foster unity
Chapters hold monthly reunions; the national convention brings the whole body together once a year.

Support development
Health, water, energy and education projects in Bali, funded and delivered by members.

Assist members
Mutual aid in bereavement, celebration and hardship, coordinated through the chapters.

1988
The association is launched in Atlanta
Founding members adopt a constitution and hold the first national convention.
1990s
Chapters form across the United States
Regional bodies take root in Texas, the East Coast, the Great Lakes and California.
2016
Over $40,000 raised for the royal palace
Members fund the renovation of the palace at Bali Nyonga.
2026
The 37th National Convention
Hosted by the Eastern Chapter in Rockville, Maryland.
Committees
Standing committees carry the association’s work between conventions. Each is chaired by a member and reports to the national executive.
