Annual Convention

One Weekend. Generations Together. A Celebration of Who We Are.

Every Memorial Day weekend, the BCA-USA family comes together.

Hosted each year in a different city across the United States, the BCA-USA Annual Convention brings together members, families, friends of Bali, and guests from across the United States, Cameroon, Europe, and the wider diaspora for an unforgettable weekend of unity, culture, service, empowerment, philanthropy, and celebration.

From Thursday’s first embrace to Monday’s final gathering, the Convention is where generations meet: parents, children, grandparents, and grandchildren. Lifelong friends reconnect while new friendships begin. We celebrate what unites us, conduct the important business of our Association, invest in our community, honor those who serve, and create memories that travel home with us.

For one weekend, BCA-USA becomes one family in one city.

Thursday | Welcome Night

The Reunion Begins

The Convention begins Thursday evening with Welcome Night, hosted by the local BCA-USA chapter.

Each host chapter brings its own creativity to the evening, giving members a taste of the city while welcoming them into a familiar BCA-USA family atmosphere.

It is an evening for reconnecting, eating, laughing, dancing, meeting new people, and simply enjoying being together again. Traditional attire, storytelling, folktales, and other cultural experiences become part of the celebration.

The most meaningful part is seeing multiple generations together. Our elders share stories, adults reconnect, and children make their own Convention memories.

The weekend has officially begun!

Friday Morning | Health, Wellness & Sports

Stronger Communities Begin with Healthy People

Friday morning begins with a focus on the health and well-being of our members.

Led by the BCA-USA Health Committee, activities may include group walks, Zumba and other exercise sessions, health screenings, wellness education, and opportunities to connect members with important health information and resources.

And then there is soccer!

A longtime favorite of Convention weekend, soccer brings teams, supporters, families, and friends together for friendly competition, community spirit, and plenty of sideline excitement.

Whether exercising, learning, competing, or cheering, Friday morning reminds us that caring for our community also means caring for one another.

Friday Evening | Charity Gala

An Evening of Elegance. A Commitment to Impact.

Friday evening transforms into one of the signature experiences of Convention weekend: the BCA-USA Charity Gala.

Members and guests dress in their formal best, walk the red carpet, enjoy cocktails and dinner, reconnect with friends, and unite for a greater purpose: giving back to the Bali Nyonga Community.

The Charity Gala provides an important platform for fundraising in support of initiatives benefiting our communities. Over the years, the generosity of BCA-USA members and supporters has contributed to projects and initiatives including the Bali Multipurpose Center, purchase of ambulances, and educational and back-to-school efforts, among others.

The evening also celebrates service. Awards and special recognitions honor members, chapters, and committees whose dedication and contributions have strengthened BCA-USA. From individual achievement to outstanding service, it is our opportunity to say thank you to those who continually go above and beyond.

Special recognition is also given to VIP Donors whose generosity helps transform ideas into impact.

We gather elegantly, celebrate glamorously and give generously.

Saturday | General Assembly

Where the Business of BCA-USA Happens

Saturday morning turns our attention to the governance and future of the Association.

The General Assembly is the official meeting of BCA-USA’s general membership and serves as the supreme organ of the Association. Members come together to participate in decisions affecting the direction and future of BCA-USA.

Members hear reports on the state of the Association, including leadership and financial updates. We review important initiatives, deliberate on issues affecting BCA-USA and the communities we serve, and consider proposals and constitutional matters when necessary.

When decisions require the voice of the membership, the membership has an opportunity to be heard.

The General Assembly reflects an essential principle of BCA-USA: our organization belongs to its members, and its future is something we build together.

Saturday Evening | Host Chapter Gala

Celebrating the Host City

Saturday evening belongs to the host chapter. It is a night for the chapter to create a unique gala experience for both BCA-USA members and the surrounding local community.

Themes, entertainment, special programs, community guests, recognition, dining, music, and dancing ensure that each year’s celebration is unique and memorable.

It is the host chapter’s moment to say:

Welcome to our city. Welcome to our community. Welcome to BCA-USA.

Sunday Morning | Worship & Reflection

Gratitude. Fellowship. Community.

Sunday morning offers a time for worship, reflection, and gratitude.

The BCA-USA Sunday Worship Service welcomes members and guests together for praise and worship, prayer, testimonies, fellowship, and the sharing of the Word.

It is a welcoming gathering that embraces the diverse spiritual backgrounds within our community and creates an inclusive space for anyone who wishes to worship together.

After several busy days, Sunday morning provides a meaningful moment for reflection, gratitude, and fellowship before the weekend’s cultural celebration begins.

Sunday Evening | Cultural Night

When Bali Nyonga Comes Alive

Cultural Night on Sunday evening shines as the crown jewel of the BCA-USA Convention weekend. The room comes alive with vibrant traditional regalia, as the native tongue of Mungaka fills the air. The melodic notes of xylophones and the heartbeat of drums echo in unison. Here, children, parents, and elders unite, sharing the same stage of cherished cultural memory, weaving a tapestry of heritage that binds generations together.

The ballroom is elegantly transformed, adorned with traditional décor that reflects our vibrant fabric prints gracing the tables and the stage. At the center stands the Nkong Nfon, a powerful cultural emblem that symbolizes the esteemed presence of HRH Dr. Doh Ganyonga III, the paramount Fon of Bali Nyonga. Cultural elders and title holders sit gracefully on either side, one step below, embodying respect and tradition. This stage, rich with symbolism, powerfully sets the tone for the dignity of our culture and the protocols that are honored throughout the evening.

Members arrive proudly dressed in traditional attire, families capture photographs together, and the evening unfolds through customary traditions, music, dance, storytelling, performances, and cultural presentations.

Chapters and cultural groups showcase their talents, while invited African cultural communities may also share their traditions, making the evening both a celebration of Bali Nyonga and our connection to the broader African diaspora.

For our children and younger generations, Cultural Night offers something particularly important: an opportunity not simply to be told about their heritage, but to see it, hear it, wear it, speak it, and participate in it.

Our culture grounds us, connects us, and reminds us who we are.

Monday | Memorial Day Barbecue

One Last Gathering Before We Say Goodbye

By Monday, the formality gives way to something wonderfully simple.

The host chapter brings everyone together for a relaxed Memorial Day barbecue, held at a local park.

There is food, music, games, dancing. Children are playing. Friends are sitting together and talking just a little longer before flights and road trips back home.

Some members depart after the barbecue. Others stay and enjoy the remainder of the holiday.

After five days of meetings, galas, culture, worship, sports, giving, and celebration, Monday gives everyone one final opportunity to simply be together.

And then come the heartfelt hugs: Safe travels. See you next year.

More Than a Convention

The BCA-USA Annual Convention is difficult to define by any single event because its meaning comes from everything happening together.

  • It is a family reunion.
  • It is a cultural homecoming.
  • It is where our members conduct the business of their Association.
  • It is where we invest in health and wellness, recognize service, raise resources for meaningful causes, celebrate our culture, welcome friends, strengthen relationships, and introduce another generation to the community that came before them.

Year after year. City after city. Generation after generation.

We Gather. We Celebrate. We Serve. We Give. We Remember. We Progress in Unity!
