Our Legacy of Impact

Decades of Service. A Lasting Commitment to Bali Nyonga.

Throughout its history, BCA-USA has remained connected to the needs and aspirations of the Bali Nyonga community.

Long before many of today’s initiatives, members of BCA-USA were already pooling their resources, expertise, and generosity to support projects in healthcare, education, infrastructure, clean water, vocational training, and community development.

These earlier projects form an important part of our story. They remind us that service to our community has been woven into the mission of BCA-USA for generations.

Health & Community Wellness

Over the years, BCA-USA supported health initiatives designed to improve access to care and strengthen community wellness in Bali Nyonga.

These efforts included sponsoring annual health fairs offering free consultations and medication, as well as supplying medication and ambulatory equipment to health centers within Bali.

BCA-USA also provided technical assistance toward the construction of a mortuary at the Bali District Hospital, contributing professional expertise to an important community facility.

Public Sanitation

Recognizing the need for public restroom facilities within the community, BCA-USA partnered with the Bali Rural Council to construct a public lavatory system.

According to BCA-USA’s historical project records, the facility was placed in service in 1999, representing an early investment in community sanitation and public infrastructure.

The Beisen Water Project

Access to water, particularly during the dry season, has historically presented challenges for some communities in Bali Nyonga.

Through the Beisen Water Project, BCA-USA provided a borehole pump and well to residents of Beisen, helping address seasonal water shortages and improve access to this essential resource.

Education & Scholarships

Education has been a longstanding area of BCA-USA’s community investment.

Through the Back-to-School and Scholarship Program, BCA-USA provided scholarships and school supplies to students and pupils in Bali. Historical records indicate that more than $60,000 in scholarship funding was awarded through these efforts.

BCA-USA also established a Teacher Sponsorship Program to help address teacher shortages in underserved elementary schools within Bali. At the time documented, the initiative sponsored 18 primary school teachers annually.

These programs reflected a belief that strengthening a community begins with investing in its children and educators.

Creating Opportunity Through Skills

One of BCA-USA’s significant earlier community-development initiatives was the Fishnet Project, launched in May 2009.

Built around the principle of creating pathways toward self-sufficiency, the program provided vocational training for low-income and underprivileged young people who had been unable to complete formal education.

BCA-USA funded the cost of training and provided the supplies and materials participants needed to complete their programs.

Training opportunities included carpentry and modern furniture making, computer training and networking, hairdressing, automobile mechanics, tailoring and dressmaking, traditional design and embroidery, building construction, and hotel management.

The project also sought to connect trainees with local businesses, encourage entrepreneurship, and equip young people with practical skills they could use to create livelihoods within their communities.

Historical records describe the Fishnet Project as a $7,000+ per-year initiative and document that, during one phase, more than 30 young people in Bali Nyonga received skills training.

Its guiding philosophy was simple but powerful:

Create opportunity. Build skills. Empower people toward self-sufficiency.

A Legacy That Continues

These projects belong to an earlier chapter of BCA-USA’s history, but the values behind them remain familiar today.

Education. Health. Opportunity. Community. Service.

From a water project in Beisen and scholarships for students, to healthcare initiatives, teacher sponsorship and vocational training for young people, each effort represented members of the diaspora asking a simple question:

How can we make a meaningful difference at home?

Today’s projects continue that legacy in new ways.

The needs may evolve. The projects may change. But the commitment remains.

Generations of giving. Decades of service. One enduring connection to Bali Nyonga.
